Monitoring and notifications overview

As an active user you have several options for monitoring the activity you care about.

You must confirm your email address to receive the email notifications listed below. Click on your username at the top of any page to navigate to your User Dashboard. Then, click the Settings button to make sure your email address is confirmed. See the section on notification to review your notification options.

What you can monitor

Wikis
You can choose to get notifications for all the Page Edits, Discussions, and/or File Changes made in any wiki that you have access to:
  1. Navigate to the wiki you want to monitor.
  2. Go to Recent Changes > Notifications.
  3. Add the items you want to monitor.

Pages
If you are only interested in keeping track of the activity on a single page and not the whole wiki, you can do that, too:
  1. Navigate to the page you would like to monitor.
  2. Select Notify from the More Page Options menu.
  3. Select the items you want to monitor.
  4. Click the Update button.

Files
If you would like to be notified whenever someone uploads a new version of a certain file, you can easily monitor that file:
  1. Navigate to the wiki where the file resides.
  2. Go to Pages and Files in the action menu.
  3. Click on the name of the file you would like to monitor.
  4. Select Notify from the More File Options menu.
  5. Check the box and click the Update button.

Discussions
It's also easy to set up notifications for ongoing discussions on a given page:
  1. Navigate to the page where you would like to monitor the discussions.
  2. Select Notify from the More Page Options menu.
  3. Check the box for Page Discussions.
  4. Click the update button.

How to stop monitoring a wiki, page, file, or discussion

  2. Scroll down to the lower right corner, where it says Monitoring.
  3. Select the Show everything you are monitoring link.
  4. Select the wiki with the content you want to stop monitoring.
  5. Click page or discussion to turn monitoring off.

Options for notification

Email: One per change
If you’re only monitoring a small number of pages, files, or wikis, and you want to be alerted of changes as they happen, you probably want to get one email per change:
  1. Go to your User Dashboard by clicking your username at the top of any page and click the Settings button.
  2. Scroll down to Settings and set Email Monitored Changes to Yes - one email per change.
  3. Hit the Save button.

Note: You will have to confirm your email address before you can receive email notifications.

Email: One per day
If you are monitoring dozens (or even hundreds) of wikis, files, and pages — or if there is a particularly high level of activity on the ones you are monitoring — you would probably rather save yourself the deluge of emails and change your settings to receive a single notification email each day:
  1. Go to your User Dashboard by clicking your username at the top of any page and click the Settings button.
  2. Scroll down to Settings and set Email Monitored Changes to Yes - one email per day.
  3. Hit the Save button.

This digest email will arrive in your inbox once a day, and will give you a chronological list of all monitored activity.

Note: You will have to confirm your email address before you can receive email notifications.

Your user dashboard
If you’d rather not receive emails, or if you want to see the whole activity history of your monitored resources, you can always check in through your user dashboard:
  1. Go to your User Dashboard by clicking your username at the top of any page.
  2. Scroll down and follow the links to see the Wikis, Pages, or Files you’re monitoring — or Show everything you are monitoring.

The Favorite star

Next to the name of every wiki page is a star. When you click this star, it turns gold and flags the page as one of your favorites.

You can get email notifications about the activity on your favorite pages:
  1. Go to your User Dashboard by clicking your username at the top of any page and click the Settings button.
  2. Scroll down to Settings and set Monitor Favorite Pages to Yes.
  3. Hit the Save button.

RSS feeds

You can also choose to keep track of any activity that you want to monitor with an RSS feed. Just follow the directions above to get to the notification settings for any wiki, page, or file, and follow the RSS link to subscribe to the feed.
